Happy Holidays

I’m sure many of you, like me, are neck deep in preparing for holiday events, special music, etc.  This weekend our church celebrates Thanksgiving and on Sunday evening, we host a community-wide Thanksgiving service (through the local ministerial alliance) in which we will be leading worship and I will be directing a community choir.

Of course we’ve also been rehearsing for Christmas.  Every year I question myself and ask “why are you doing this?”  And every year, when it’s all said and done, I’m blessed, excited and thinking about what we’ll do next year!  We will host more than 1,000 guests in four performances of a Christmas presentation that includes our adult, youth and children’s fine arts departments.  The first half of the presentation is Christmas casual, secular and fun.  The second half of the presentation is formal, spiritual and moving.  People who never darken the church doorway will attend, have a great time, hear a presentation of the gospel and leave being inadvertantly affected by the presence of the Holy Spirit.

I don’t know what you do at your church, but whatever it is remember the purpose behind all of the insanity.  Yes, we’re busy.  Yes, there’s a lot of stress.  Yes, the decorations have to be put up.  Yes, the gifts have to be purchased.  Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes!  But none of it matters if we don’t keep our perspective and remember that the birth of Jesus Christ changed our destiny for all of eternity.  We have something worth celebrating, something that we must share with our world.  Take advantage of this Holiday Season and spread the “good news.”  “He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end.”

Take a moment and share your holiday plans with us.  What does your church do to proclaim the birth of Christ!?

Happy Holidays,

Sherri
